Flowers as story-telling

While wedding floral trends are ever-changing, one thing defines 2021 the best: couples will be more intentional with the “why” behind the florals they are selecting. For the more intimate weddings of 2021, flowers will play a huge part in helping the beloved tell their love stories.

Colors, volume and texture will all play a role, but the floral arrangements will be more intimate and sentimental, reflecting a “personal touch” of the couple. Seasonality will inspire the varieties and color palettes in a new and unique way.

Expressive Color Palettes

After 2020 has resulted in a rise of “unsaved-the-dates” invitations, many couples have been looking forward to their special days for many months. To create the perfect intimate setting for their smaller weddings, they are selecting colors that feel more representative of their personal style.

We are seeing a shift from the traditional crème and white wedding florals towards more vibrant and happy colors that reflect each couple’s, unique love. Many are opting in for bold, fun, fresh, and colorful hues and unexpected palettes in their wedding decor.

We are still seeing neutral palettes, but with bold pops of color such as a fiery orange-red, lavender-periwinkle, or marigold yellows. Tessa Corp’s varieties like New Face, Cool Water and Goldfinch are perfect adaptations of this trend.

Earthy tones

Never out of style, especially for fall or boho weddings, earthy tones are making an even bigger splash during the 2021 wedding season. These range from the classic dusty pinks and mauves to newly trendy terra cottas, rusty oranges, and honey yellows. Earthy wedding florals create warm and cozy vibes for the special day.

Tiny Blooms

Tiny takes the spotlight this year! With smaller-sized affairs, some couples are choosing to go tiny with their bridal bouquets.

Tiny blooms, such as gypsophila, lisianthus, alstroemerias, celosia, sweet pea, and hellebore have been trending in wedding floral design, both as the leading floral choices for the entire bridal bouquet or as artful additional to the floral displays to personalize the more voluminous blooms like roses.

And we are loving this at Tessa Corp! We now proudly offer Gypsophila Xlence in traditional white, tinted and rainbow colors. Tiny bouquets from these adorable, dainty, long-lasting blooms have been one of our favorite trends this summer.

Framing with flowers

We are all just trying to find some grounding after a hectic 2020. Floor or wall floral installations are very popular this year, as opposed to the more traditional hanging florals. Perhaps with more weddings taking place in the outdoor, open-air spaces, couples are requesting more large-scale ground installations that frame the event.

One of the coolest trends we’ve seen is an “aisle meadow” – a creative way to turn the aisle into the focal point of their ceremony, framing the couple and their guests.

More personal touch

With a more intimate guest list and coronavirus safety precautions, couples are thinking outside of the box for their wedding days.

From the more casual and mismatched decor of the backyard weddings to seating smaller groups by pods at personalized tables of 2-6 guests, to mini wedding cakes, wedding events are full of unique flair this year.

Shifting Wedding Floral Trends in 2021

2021 has seen major shifts in the way we celebrate the union of two hearts. We are seeing a rise in micro weddings – more intimate affairs with 10 to 50 guests who are the closest family and friends of the couple.

These smaller weddings are resulting in more attention to detail during the celebration, including a highly personalized setting or venue, more intentional ceremony, as well as more sentimental and symbolic florals.

Today’s blog looks at the shifting wedding trends for 2021.
