Women’s Day 2019: A Celebration of Equality & Balance

Observance of the International Women’s Day goes far beyond the reverence of women’s grace and beauty. It is a global celebration of social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women around the world. It’s a day to show our appreciation for all women in our lives as our token of solidarity and shared responsibility for creating a gender-equal world.

Giving flowers to the ones we love on this holiday has long been symbolic with showing appreciation and expressing gratitude. We are certain Tessa roses will leave a lasting impact and make her feel like the special woman she is, plus we compiled additional ideas on how you can show your support. Keep reading to find out…

The first International Women’s Day took place in 1911 and has since been celebrated for over 100 years. This holiday embodies the ethos of equality, dignity, justice, and empathy and promotes advocacy and action of this gender parity. In recent years, the holiday is gaining momentum around the world as a platform for women and girl empowerment.

This year’s global theme is #BalanceforBetter which promotes the establishment of a gender-balanced world where everyone has a part to play. That’s where your actions make a difference!

How you can participate in the global celebration of Women’s Equality

Depending on which corner of the world you live in, your culture may have some unique customs and traditions around the celebration of International Women’s Day. Our team at Tessa Corp went ahead and compiled a list of ideas for how you can celebrate women’s achievements regardless of where you are.

  1. Shop at women-owned businesses in your local community

Women-owned ventures are on the rise, which is an excellent trend to witness; however, the success of those businesses depends in part on you and your willingness to support them. Do your research and buy from your local women-owned businesses to help these entrepreneurs thrive as they share their gifts with their communities.

  1. Donate to a local non-profit that promotes Women’s Causes

Whether it’s a global or local cause that promotes better quality education, work-placement, or living conditions for women, consider supporting it. Getting behind a powerful local initiative can help maximize its results for the group it benefits. You can also donate time as a volunteer if you prefer a more hands-on approach. And it feels so good to help in that way!

  1. Offer to mentor a woman or a girl to aspire the next generation of leaders

Whatever your area of expertise, there is always something we can share with others to help them learn and grow. Share a skill or a trade, mentor reading or math, offer an internship at your place of business or write a letter of recommendation for a rising star in your circle. Women have a more challenging time finding mentors than their male counterparts.

  1. Invest in women-founded ventures

Venture capital is known to be a boys’ club. If you’re a female founder who needs to raise capital, the odds are stacked against you. Of the $58.8 billion dollars invested by US-based venture capitalists in 2015 alone, only 7% of that funding went to female entrepreneurs. Want to see more women at the top of organizations? Invest in their businesses.

  1. Give a gift of flowers for the dear women in your life

This is not a holiday for romantic gifts but an opportunity for both men and women to show appreciation to other women in their lives who deserve to be recognized. Here are some options to consider:

Mother: Although this is different from Mother’s Day, consider gifting flowers to your mom, especially if she is a source of inspiration in your life. But don’t thank her for just being your mom, give her a compliment about her personal and professional qualities that stand out to you.

Grandmother: The 20th century is known for many tough moments in history, and even tougher people who endured them. Does your grandmother have some stories to share about growing up in the very uncertain times and making it work anyway? She would be honored if you showed her appreciation on occasion that recognizes the legacy she and her generation left upon this world. Celebrate your tough, resilient and strong-willed grandmas with flowers with International Women’s Day.

Boss/Leader/Teacher: Do you have a women boss or leader in your work, school or community organization? Gather your peers and surprise the woman in charge with some fresh roses and a card signed by the whole team with sentiments of empowerment and appreciation.

Friend: Do you have one of those super-hero friends in your life who is always there for you and others, who never forgets a birthday and always has the right words of wisdom? This is a great time to remind her of how she makes your life better.

Sister: “Sisters are for sharing laughter and wiping tears.” If you have one, you know this already. How often do we thank our sister for being our rock? Not often enough! Make it a point this International Women’s Day.

Coworker: She might be your office peer, your happy-hour buddy, or your desk neighbor – chances are she listens when you need her and gives you a high-five when it is time to celebrate work achievements. Surprise her with some beautiful blooms to let her know that she matters.

Make a gesture of appreciation and gratitude this International Women’s Day to show the women of the world that they truly matter. Tessa Corp proudly supports the women’s movement and takes joy in this global celebration.
